I’m part of a team producing short videos in an attempt to influence the upcoming election. Here is our first one. We would love to hear what you think of it:

I admit I don’t even know if something like this video can be helpful at this point. I do have a sense that many people are not aware of the prospect that a Trump/Vance victory could lead to actual Fascism, with severe repression of dissent, featuring all of the familiar horrors like internment camps, all the way to genocides. I think there is a way that Fascism feeds on itself, making darker and worse scenarios almost inevitable once it gets going.
Yesterday I was speaking with a friend whose parents are relatively well off, live in suburbia, and are avid Trump supporters. While they have no material deprivation, they are, like many people in America, deeply unhappy and dissatisfied. We’ve created a society of depressed, alienated people. A lot of people either don’t have the tools or simply don’t want to do any difficult inner work on themselves. Instead, they project their anger and misery outward, on an “other,” like an immigrant or a Communist. If they get their wish and society moves in this direction under a Fascistic government, they will find that, even as “others” such as immigrants, trans people, and minorities are mistreated, they will continue to marinate in their unhappiness. Since they still won’t want to look into or change themselves, they will believe the “other” deserves even harsher treatment.
Another problem is that the Democrats are basically establishment bureaucrats and administrators who want to maintain a functional society and improve it incrementally. The Republicans, on the other hand, conjure with deeper currents in the collective unconscious, with mythological archetypes, including the potent idea of vengeance. This is totally against the original teachings of Jesus, but, like, whatever.
