I hope you enjoy this wide-ranging discussion with Breaking Together author Jem Bendell. I wrote about the impact Bendell’s new book had on me here and here. Bendell defines his position as Left “eco-libertarian,” supporting human freedom outside of centralized corporate and government structures. He proposes that, often, this freedom is best expressed in tight-knit communities living in balance with their environment. He argues against hyper-technological approaches such as carbon capture or geo-engineering, in favor of humans relearning traditional methods that are inherently resilient and regenerative, and reinventing small-scale communities.
