Complexity, Consciousness, and Our Psychic Future
Interview with Neil Theise, author of Notes on Complexity
I highly recommend Neil Theise’s compact new book, Notes on Complexity, which provides a satisfying “theory of everything” rooted in analytic idealism and Neils Bohrs’ idea around complementarity. “Complexity theory is the study of how complex systems manifest in the world,” he writes. “Complexity in this context refers to a class of patterns of interactions: open-ended, evolving, unpredictable, yet adaptive and self-sustaining.” He looks at these “holons” on different scales, from human cultures to bodies cells to atoms to sub-atomic or quantum levels.
In this interview, Neil discusses his book and explains how he became fascinated with psychic phenomena as a result of direct experience with a dying parent. He believes his all-encompassing theory gives us an approach to such phenomena. Neil will also be joining us for our upcoming Embracing Our Emergency seminar, although we haven’t officially added him to the roster quite yet.
Please check out the interview and, if you don’t mind, please subscribe to my YouTube channel. We plan to use this channel more frequently. More subscribers will make it possible for us to produce these interviews (also, hopefully, some video essays) over time.
