Without serious opposition, we will soon transition from a law-based society to a code-based society, allowing for ubiquitous control and anonymous cruelty
Acknowledge you naming the unique flavour of collapse I. The American empire. And the travesty that is Israel. Not to mention Hormuz.
But have you looked outside American borders? Ukraine is surviving and has reinvented warfare. Canada is leading and learning into coalitions of middle powers. Columbia has hosted a coalition of the willing with countries that truly want to address climate change. Some things are dying. Some things are being born.
US was not part of this meeting. Canada and 58 other countries were. So likely not covered by American media. My intent is that many endings are occurring in US and, in direct response, many beginnings are occurring elsewhere.
Is this drift inevitable in all nations, or is it a particularly USAmerican affliction? Mexico, in particular, seems to be zagging in the other direction. Here in Canada things feel markedly more humane despite the economic blowbacks from the civilization scale fraud being perpetrated to our south.
Thank you, Daniel - for speaking the truth and sounding the alarm, yet again. Your readers appreciate the work you do to provide perspective across complex phenomena.

Horror has been at the root of much of America - genocide of Native Americans, enslavement of Africans, the CIA’s destruction of countries around the world since the 1950’s, and their assassinations of our leaders, the corrupt elite running the show. Most Americans have paid zero attention to the rot. Now the rot is being seen for what it has always been - and we have to survive this awful decomposition for many years in order to build something real and life-sustaining from the compost. Our grandchildren will have that challenge. Bless them.
It's also essential to see things from "on high" a higher perspective, we as a people have been doing horrible things to one another since the very beginning of time, we must acknowledge we haven't as humans as of yet fully evolved, the majority of humanity alive today haven't ever fully blossomed, ever felt fully alive , their inner sense organs are stunned, they weren't given the love and nurturing humans need to fully blossom to be able to fully feel.
However, today there are enough of Us awake and fully Conscious who need to collectively assemble and re weave the issues Into A new narrative that alters one's emotions on the spot, something we all could collectively bring to the forefront , a light much brighter , a real Beacon of Light
Thank you for naming the compartmentalisation necessary to continue functioning in this surreal reality we've entered. The cognitive dissonance of recognising the threats you detail while the vast majority of people go about their business as usual is, in my experience, like a turbocharged version of the dread I feltback in 2019, awakening to the severity of the climate crisis, and simultaneously realising that most people just didn't want to look.
Your writing is playing a very important role in constellating a community of people who can support each other to bear witness -- none of us can hold this alone.
Here is what you said without providing any answers:
"You and/or I go back into enjoying a joke, a work of art, a meal, or whatever. We move on, guiltily. We feel powerless. We allow. Because life is short and what is the alternative?"
I find that sometimes, but seldom, you do provide alternatives. And I wonder why readers applaud this lack of completeness? And I wonder how you separate your self from the "we" you so often mention?
Just read the following in the latest Minority Report and it captures for me what you and many others are bringing. Grateful to be with you all in the 'difficult middle'!
"The future belongs to people willing to act in the difficult middle. Not the ones who think everything will be fine. Not the ones who think it is already lost."
As I learned via having to confront a persistent illness for over the last year: it doesn't matter how much you plead, pray or question, there are some things that can't be changed. In terms of where we are as a civilization and my hopes for the future, I hesitate to call it giving up, but there is a certain calm release when you just accept what the universe has given you. Humans weren't built to last. It's a shame but it is what it is.

very good point, Meg. I will explore more. I have been very amazed by Ukraine. I didn't know about Columbia.

yes it causes those of us who can't look away a lot of anguish.

Brilliant summation of our current existential plight Daniel. Kudos. I hope this will be shared widely.
Totally agree about Bernie. Totally agree about the uselessness of the Democratic Party.

Daniel, would you consider some version of ‘one year on’ of last years July AI course?
