Taylor Swift, Pop Culture, and Satanic / Illuminati Mind Control
Down the rabbit hole and into the rhizome!
Before I dive into the topic of today’s essay, I wanted to mention that there is still time to join our seminar, Embracing Our Emergency, which started last Sunday.
So far, the presentations and discussions have been fantastic — all available online for replay for course participants. On Sunday, both Alnoor Ladha and Neil Theise talked in different ways about our Capitalist / colonialist monoculture as a “complex adaptive system.” They helped me see our situation differently. As Theise noted, mass extinctions are built into the evolutionary program of organic life. They are inevitable. Something about his perspective relaxed my nervous system. Also, Theise, like myself, is an idealist who believes the universe is a projection of consciousness. I think this new ontology will be crucial for the next stage of social change, as we move into post-Capitalism.
On Wednesday, we heard from climate scientist Michael Mann, author of Our Fragile Moment and The New Climate War, among other works. Mann is relatively optimistic while acknowledging the severity of the crisis. He still believes we can take action to mitigate its most destructive effects by, for example, transiting to renewable on a large scale, quickly. It was helpful to hear his perspective and question him on it. On Sunday, we will be joined by climate scientist Rebekah Jones (who has a popular Substack, here), and Patrick Duffy, founder of Global Fashion Exchange.
I thought I was finally done thinking about — and, Thank God, listening to — Taylor Swift when I found myself going down a strangly familiar dark rabbit hole around her work as well as much mainstream pop culture. Today I can’t help myself: I am going at least some of the way down this rabbit hole for those who want to follow. It leads to a bizarre hypothesis: A Satanic/Illuminati counter-narrative. Over many years, I have tried to define a coherent orientation toward this. I forget about it, and then return to it. I still believe it is important to consider this whole area — as marginal and ridiculous / dismissible as it might seem. I invite you to think through this with me, actively, in the comments.
When I descend into this seductively opaque mind-maze, I find it logically contradicts other things I have thought and written about recently. I apologize in advance for that. I try to hold the tensions of these contradictions in my mind, which can be uncomfortable. For example, I have pushed back a bit against the popular idea that the Covid mRNA vaccines, and perhaps the virus itself, constitute an orchestrated effort on the part of an Illuminati technocratic elite seeking world domination to control the global population. When I enter into this “Looking Glass World” of the occult / Illuminati counter-thesis, this seems far more plausible.
Without copping out, I find it conceivable — I suspect — that multiple levels of reality operate, paradoxically, at the same time. Also, the Satanic/Illuminati counter-narrative veers toward some elements of the disturbing, dismissed QANON story, bringing up subjects such as pedophilia, conspiracy, and mind control. This leads to a reconsideration of evil as an active power in the world. It even leads to the consideration, as Rudolf Steiner and Gurdjieff explored in their visionary cosmologies, of occult sacrifice as an underlying principle of the universe.
What we experience, today, as this materialist / consumerist monoculture that rushes the world toward ecological devestation could be (feels to me like) the preparation for an occult sacrifice on a macro-scale. We seem to be enmeshed in — or I might be wrong or partly crazy — a highly developed technology for controlling the collective consciousness, developed over quite a long period, using a host of different programming methods, techniques, and strategies, while always testing out new and better ones.
This occult hypothesis leads to reflections on the control of mass society by a wealthy and powerful (sociopathic / psychopathic) elite, which brings up questions about what is actually going on in our world today, on this deeper occult level? And: If we were to reach a shared understand of this, is there anything we could about it? I also don’t fully understand why I find myself, in particular, so attracted to thinking about and investigating this subject matter.
These reflections started when I revisited one of my all-time favorite websites, Vigilant Citizen. I started reviewing Vigilant Citizen’s articles on Taylor Swift. I have spent many hours on VC over the years, but I also forget about the site for long stretches. I don’t know who the content creator is. He is a Christian American who believes there is an elite control culture pushing a post-gendered, trans-humanist, police-state agenda, seeking to bring about a New World Order socialist slave society (as represented by the iconic film Metropolis, incessantly referenced in music videos). We differ in many of our beliefs and ideas, yet I find VC does a great service by exposing the obvious occult symbolism and barely cloaked ideology found across popular media.
VC argues that many world events and huge portions of popular culture reflect the agenda of a “hidden in plain sight” Illuminati/Satanic ruling elite with a penchant for pedophilia and human sacrifice and much else that is morally repugnant. Reflecting on the VC essays, I feel the figure/ground reversal created by looking at certain famous images, such as this face/vase image:
As Neil Theise noted in his presentation last Sunday during our seminar, you can see either the face or the vase — it isn’t possible to see both at the same time. The closest you can come is to rapidly oscillate between the two readings.
Similarly, there is, it seems, a common consensus reality and an occult reality, an invisible underworld, which only becomes visible when we choose to see it. But once we do see it and reflect on it, it becomes glaringly obvious – and it seems to be everywhere, but particularly in pop music and music videos, movies, Netflix series, and also, as VC has documented at great length, in the music industry’s main awards ceremonies.
