That is The Battleground brother…

Hi Daniel, as much as I enjoyed this conversation between the three of you and was intrigued to learn more about your upcoming course, there is a blindspot in your discussion: using AI as a tool to create these videos - compelling as they are - requires truly vast, life-depleting amounts of water and energy. It’s unconscionable to my mind. More information on this topic can be found here:

i know that this is a massive issue and already wrote about it. But the problem is, still, this isnt going to stop all of the other sectors of society making use of these tools, so if we do not use it the difference of energy/ water use is negligible, while we then do not get to put out alternative ideas / visions into the world. I don't know is my honest answer.

If the imaginary doesn't exist then it is too vague a concept on its own to work for the good of anything at a practical level such as this, that is, in the idea of dealing with real world problems. It isn't going anywhere. "Poetry makes nothing happen." (Auden) Not that this sort of exploration in itself isn't a good thing, I like the Mansfield snippet. So my answer is: No: art, storytelling, cannot be USED as a force for good even though it is a force for good. The "use" part is delusional. Just make art.

interesting point... I both do and don't agree... will reflect on it and get back to you with a more considered response, perhaps in a future newsletter instead of a comment.
