Thanks for this, Daniel. People often find themselves asking what they should be doing, about the mess the world is in. The older I get the more clearly it comes to me that I need to be doing exactly what I so often find myself wishing everyone else was doing. For me, that is the central message of your talk on Radical Love. Lately I have been seeing a lot of comments on social media to the effect of, "If you are planning to vote for DT, you are obviously rotten to the core, a racist, a fascist with no moral compass etc., and therefore no friend! of mine!" I am no stranger to this easily understandable sentiment, yet, while tempted, I find myself resisting it. While I am certain it is wholly appropriate to reject the whole MAGA movement with every bone in my body and to do whatever I feel myself called to do to prevent it from prevailing,, I can see no good outcomes resulting from viewing a third of the people in the country my enemies, including some otherwise very kind, generous neighbors and in-laws. In fact, love and like are not the same thing, though liking can pave the way for loving ,and I think the converse is also true. It really is a harrowing time to be alive, but here we are, and what we do about it might even make a difference in the outcome. I don't know if it will, but I need to believe that it is possible, and listening to you speak like this from your own heart gives me Hope.

If you haven’t yet explored Valarie Kaur’s work on “revolutionary love,” check it out Daniel. I wrote about it here:

Thanks for giving us this sweet tonic. I’ve been following your posts and have been struggling with all the feels as we get closer to the election. We all need to take a minute to focus on love ❤️

I wholly enjoyed the strong point I think the author is making, in that activism, to be aware, educated about the facts and acting up on them, needs to be grounded in an all encompassing Love for humanity and all of Life to be effective and successful.

We as a humanity aren’t there yet, I, as a human, although I’ve been trying for a very long time, am not there yet.

Still, we need to keep on trying as it is getting urgent.

A few things In the piece did tug at my ego for a reaction, like saying that the people who believe Musk and Thiel have hypertrophied intellects, a demeaning generalization of, i believe, a problem of a larger nature that encompasses not just intelligence, but emotional intelligence as well, that lack of an emotional dimension that seems to be a general trait of technocrats, as you mentioned at some point. A subject that I feel needs to be explored in more details and approached with more compassion.

Also, while talking about conflict and war, to avoid mentioning Netanyahu and the Government of Israel’s ever amplifying actions and reactions to the October 7th 2023 attacks, a very current and potent example, seemed awkwardly deliberate and imho took away some of the impact of the piece.

But as a whole, thank you for yet an other important piece.

Brilliant...... Jainism needs to be the jingle. Most see life as Titanic now, a free for all, looking after the self. If we go Oppenheimerly, civil warringly, then it does go a Bardo way. All the journeys you took, guide posted in all your books, is the road, not this 3Dish sit down by a toad. Trump and Musk, a product of the father, but Harris is so far away from what she ought ta. He's a loose cannon but people feel she's bought, ya. Sadly Daniel, so many have lost livelihood since 2020. Huge amount of writers, activists who could birth something, grass roots up, but money worries keep us workin' for the man and hurt in the dirt. Kingsley Dennis, James True, Alex Ebert, David Whyte poet...... just go through my list that I read on substack alone. People are not buying the books, not signing up to newsletter in number, barely might listen to them audibly. Life pulls us to the immediate, the self and family. No one is wanting to be in community, school boards, sports etc. Circles of everyone, smaller. It takes catalysts everywhere but these people are not in financial stay. Get a philanthropist ta kick it in. Ya, then Thiel and Musk buy up cheap, the thrill. My honest conclusion, one can only fight in their own ring. Those in Washington must fight theirs, down the pub theirs, kitchen sink between themselves and substack over here's. Cause let's face it, the drivel substack recommends as editors picks is incredible in these stressing times. Anyway, enough rhymes. Go well Daniel, shine. Think about talking to Jamie, it could define.
